Overview

In order to provide more opportunities for talented young athletes to broaden their horizons and understand the running culture and training methods of Kenya, one of the world's top long-distance running nations, Sportiverse HK, in collaboration with TeamSOLO Academy, will organize the first "Future Champion" Outstanding Athletes Exchange Program Award. Through an open recruitment process, two outstanding and passionate student athletes will be selected and fully sponsored to participate in the "Kenya Running Cultural Experience Tour" in August. After the journey, a public sharing session will be held to encourage more young people to step out of their comfort zones and pave their own path through running.

Eligibility

Applicants must meet the following conditions:

  • Hong Kong permanent residents;

  • Secondary school students aged 16 or above;

  • Main sports discipline in middle-distance running, cross-country running, or triathlon;

  • Recommended by their school principal, teacher or coach;

  • Holders of valid travel documents

This scholarship is open to eligible Hong Kong secondary school students to apply.

Selection Criteria

The selection for the Future Champion Outstanding Athlete Exchange Program will comprehensively evaluate:

  • Sports achievements (40%)

  • Potential and enthusiasm (40%)

  • Financial need (20%)

Scholarship Coverage

  1. ​Free participation in the "Kenya Running Cultural Experience Tour " (including airfare, accommodation, meals, training, activities, local transportation, visas, travel insurance, with a total value of approximately HKD 30,000. #)

  2. Professional coaching team serves as pre-trip training consultants

  3. Sponsorship of sports equipment from a sports brand

  4. Accompanying coach, teacher, or family member can enjoy a 40% discount on the tour fee (up to 2 persons)

    #Excludes pre-trip vaccinations, personal medication, personal expenses, and self-paid meals

Quota

Two applicants will be selected for the Future Champion Outstanding Athlete Award Exchange Program

Duty of

Selected Athlete

  • Participation in the "Kenya Running Cultural Experience Tour " from August 5th to August 16th

  • Consent for the organizers and other media to use their photos and videos forpromotional purposes

  • Communicate with the professional coaching team before the trip and participating in pre-trip training

  • Participation in scheduled filming and interview assignments arranged by theorganizers

  • Wearing sponsored equipment during filming, interviews, and the duration of the Kenya tour

  • Submitting a report after the journey and sharing the experience at a public sharing session arranged by the organizers

Procedure

Step 1: Prepare the Application Packet
A duly completed application packet includes the following documents.:

  1. Part A, B, C, D, and F of the application form should be completed and signed by the applicant.

  2. Part E of the application form should be completed and signed by the recommender.

  3. Part F of the application form should be signed by the parent/guardian.

Application Form above must be submitted in the PDF format.


Step 2: Upload and Submit Application Packet ​
Applicants are required to submit their application forms along with a personal photo before 23:59 on May 13th.


Step 3: Selection Process ​

  • Preliminary Review by the Selection Committee

  • Applicants shortlisted will be notified via email to participate in the timed selection event on May 26th.

  • May 26th: Timed Selection Event

  • Applicants shortlisted for the second round will be notified via email to attend interviews on June 1st.

  • June 1st: Interviews

  • The Selection Committee may request shortlisted applicants to submit proof of athletic achievements and financial status.

  • Early June: Announcement of Results

Notes for
Applicants

  • Filming will take place during the timed selection event and interviews. Footage obtained and photos or videos provided by applicants may be used for media coverage and marketing purposes.

  • Applicants must possess valid travel documents.

Selected finalists will be required to sign a commitment letter, agreeing to:

  • Participate in the "Kenya Running Cultural Experience Tour" from August 5th to 16th

  • Maintain communication with the professional coaching team and undergo pre-departure training.

  • Use equipment provided by sponsors during filming, training, and tour activities.

  • Cooperate with filming, interviews, and post-tour sharing activities arranged by the organizers.

  • Submit a report after completing the journey.
